🧊 GERF® DOUBLE WATERPROOF CRYOGENIC PROTECTION JACKET

Multi-Layer Torso & Arm Protection Against Cryogenic Liquid Splashes | High-Visibility Reflective Strips | Metal-Free Velcro Closure | Protection to -196°C (-320°F)

❄️ CRYOGENIC SPLASH PROTECTION

Engineered for professionals working in ultra-cold industrial environments, the GERF® Cryogenic Jacket protects the torso, back, and arms against incidental splashes of cryogenic liquids. It is built with the same multi-layer anti-cryogenic composite system used in the GERF® Double-Sided Waterproof Cryogenic Apron, independently certified by AITEX (Notified Body No. 0161).

Certification scope: the AITEX certificate and test results shown below apply to the GERF® Double-Sided Waterproof Cryogenic Apron, product reference 90-CRYO-DL. This jacket uses the same multi-layer material and construction system, but is not presented as independently certified unless jacket-specific certification documentation is supplied.

⚙️ Material & Construction

  • Waterproof outer layer: royal-blue woven polyamide with a protective coating that helps repel condensed water and cryogenic liquid splashes.
  • High-efficiency insulation: special polyolefin/polyester microfibre that reduces heat transfer without excessive bulk.
  • Comfortable inner layer: soft polyester lining designed for extended wear.
  • Metal-free Velcro front closure: easy to open, close, and adjust while wearing PPE, without an exposed metal zipper that could become extremely cold or create a metal-to-skin contact hazard.
  • Protective overlapping flap: covers and conceals the Velcro closure, adding a second barrier over the front opening and helping deflect incidental cryogenic splashes away from the closure line.
  • Adjustable Velcro wrist cuffs: tighten around the cryogenic gloves to create a close, overlapping glove-to-sleeve interface that helps reduce open entry points and keeps the hands better protected as part of the complete PPE system.
  • Elasticated waist: helps keep the garment close to the body and limits open entry points.
  • Lightweight, breathable design: promotes airflow and freedom of movement during demanding operations.
  • Low-temperature flexibility: the composite system is designed to remain flexible in ultra-cold environments.

🔒 Metal-Free Closure & Protected Entry Points

The jacket is designed without a conventional metal zipper. Its adjustable Velcro closure simplifies donning and doffing, while the overlapping protective flap covers the closure line so it is not directly exposed to incidental splashes.

  • No exposed metal zipper: helps avoid direct contact with metal components that can become dangerously cold in cryogenic environments.
  • Fast, glove-friendly adjustment: the Velcro system can be secured and released more easily while using protective equipment.
  • Covered front opening: the outer flap adds protection over the closure and helps redirect splashes.
  • Protected wrist interface: adjustable cuffs close over the glove area, helping minimize the gap between sleeve and glove.
  • Integrated PPE system: when paired with correctly sized GERF® cryogenic gloves, the cuff-and-glove overlap improves continuity of coverage across the wrists and hands.

Fit note: the cuff-and-glove interface is designed to improve closure and splash protection, but it should not be interpreted as gas-tight, liquid-tight, or suitable for immersion. Correct sizing and a workplace risk assessment remain essential.

🔆 High-Visibility Reflective Strips — Identification & Visual Control

Cryogenic transfer operations can create dense vapor clouds and reduced visibility. The jacket incorporates high-visibility reflective strips to help teams maintain visual contact with the operator in demanding work areas.

  • Worker identification: helps supervisors and team members locate the operator quickly.
  • Real-time visual control: supports monitoring of body position and movement during tanker unloading, Dewar filling, and transfer procedures.
  • Emergency response: improves rapid visual location if a splash incident occurs.
  • Low-light operations: increases visibility during night shifts, outdoor work, and dim industrial environments.
  • High-vapor conditions: helps preserve operator traceability when LN₂, LOX, or LNG vapor reduces visibility.

🛡️ Multi-Layer Protection System

  • Torso & back: layered waterproof and insulating materials help shield critical body areas from incidental cryogenic splashes and cold exposure.
  • Arms: full-length sleeves extend protection through the upper limbs.
  • Wrists & hands: adjustable Velcro cuffs overlap compatible cryogenic gloves to help close the sleeve-to-glove interface and maintain continuous coverage.
  • Waist: elasticated construction helps maintain coverage while moving.

🌡️ Thermal & Splash Protection

  • Designed for work involving cryogenic liquid splashes at temperatures from approximately -170°C to -196°C (-274°F to -320°F).
  • Suitable for operations involving liquid nitrogen (LN₂), liquid oxygen (LOX), liquid argon (LAR), liquid carbon dioxide (LCO₂), and LNG.
  • Helps protect against cold gas exposure and incidental liquid splash contact.
  • Waterproof outer construction helps prevent the sponge effect associated with absorbent garments.

🏅 Reference Performance of the GERF® Multi-Layer System

The same multi-layer system is used in the GERF® Double-Sided Waterproof Cryogenic Apron, independently certified by AITEX — Research & Innovation Center, Notified Body No. 0161, under EU Regulation 2016/425 for PPE Category II. Certificate No. 26/10243/00/0161/B.

✅ Why GERF®?

  • Same multi-layer technology as the AITEX-certified GERF® apron.
  • Reference Contact Cold performance: the shared system achieved EN 511 Contact Cold Level 4, the maximum level, in the certified apron.
  • Reflective visibility: supports worker identification and operational control.
  • Metal-free front closure: Velcro fastening enables easier use and avoids an exposed metal zipper.
  • Protected closure line: overlapping flap covers the Velcro and adds a splash-deflecting barrier.
  • Glove-compatible cuffs: adjustable wrist closures help maintain continuous protection between the sleeves and cryogenic gloves.
  • No sponge effect: waterproof outer fabric helps repel splashes instead of retaining liquid against the body.
  • No deep liquid traps: streamlined construction reduces areas where cryogenic liquid could pool.
  • Flexible at ultra-low temperatures: designed to preserve mobility during demanding tasks.

🏭 Recommended Applications
